Elderly care in Sweden is municipalized with assistance-based services regulated by the Social Services Act. About 200,000 people work in elderly care, which mainly includes housing for special residents (about 90,000 people) or home care (about 220,000 people). Common assistance to stay at home is security alarms, simpler services (laundry and cleaning, etc.) or nursing care (day-to-day care, hygiene, etc.). Often the elderly also have the help of health care with different delegated services from primary care (medicines, dressing wounds, etc.).

Primary care is first-line healthcare and works according to LEON principles (Lowest Effective Handling Level). In everyday mood there is a hospital clinic / health center where doctors and nurses work.

In home nursing, staff work from both primary care (nurses) and home care (staff with delegated efforts). Efforts may be single or over a longer period. Typical interventions are medications, wounds and diabetes treatments. Home care is for those who have difficulty accessing a healthcare center.

Diagnosis refers to typical diagnostics that are done at a healthcare center or in the home care center where the patient’s health is measured. It may be to measure blood sugar, oxygen pressure, pulse, etc. locally or remotely, but also monitoring associated with alarm functions.

Smart IT tools often mean those that can better access the care of the individual patents and create a more efficient work environment for the staff. It can also include smart scheduling, patient monitoring, treatment schedules, social digital tools, communication, automation, etc.
